Accidental Hangover Cure: How Special Coffee Became an Elixir

Posted on March 7, 2017 by kitschierm

I thought I was just offering him a cup of my special coffee, but it turned out to be more of an accidental hangover cure.

We have made it a tradition to have a big celebration on Thanksgiving. Every year we seem to add something new, and one of these additions is cooking turkeys in the outdoor smoker my husband made. We cook three 20+ pound turkeys, and sometimes I throw on root veggies to roast if there is room in the cooker.

While the cooking is going on, so is much celebratory drinking. After all, it is usually snowing and blowing with temps in the twenties or thirties. Fire only keeps you warm from the outside. 😉

Thanksgiving is like the end of the year weekend retreat, and people are encouraged just to relax and enjoy. We keep some of the guests overnight or over many nights. It is just a fun, relaxing time of the year I think everyone should be able to enjoy.

This past year, I discovered traditional cooking.  I have been trying to incorporate it into our everyday eating. Just as importantly I carry it over into our holiday menus so our guests may also share in our good for you food. Cooking for people is so much more enjoyable now that I know how to serve them the best kinds of food for their health.

One of my favorite go-to drinks has been the Nutrient Dense Frothy Peppermint Mocha . It is one of the recipes from the people at GNOWFGLINS  and I love it. I drink it now and then because to me it is a treat. Well, it is Thanksgiving or Thanksgiving weekend, and I think it is time to share this treat.

My brother woke up early Friday morning and I was in the kitchen getting ready to make this for myself. I asked him if he would like some of my special coffee. He enjoyed the cooking out on Thanksgiving and had shared many more celebratory drinks well into the evening. And he looked like it. LOL. I didn’t expect him to accept the offer, but he did, and I proceeded to prepare the coffee delights.

Making it is easy because you only use one appliance, the blender.

Why is this coffee so good? It is mocha and peppermint. Enough said. It is foamy, naturally sweet with an equal amount of chocolate and peppermint taste. It is richly comforting but in no way overpowering. Around the holidays, it fits in perfectly with all the other seasonal treats. It has ingredients that I know are nutritious but don’t necessarily need to be divulged to the people with whom you are sharing. These are the reasons I enjoy it.

The accidental benefit, my brother’s hangover was soothed, possibly even alleviated. He felt much better after drinking the coffee so, of course, offering and making it for him made me feel much better.

I hope you can try this coffee. You don’t need a hangover to enjoy all of the expected benefits. If you care to, why not share some of your accidental hangover cures in the comments. I am interested to hear what others find to be helpful.
